About Lake Havasu

Lake Havasu City is located on the eastern shore of Lake Havasu on the Colorado River border of California and Arizona (satellite view). The city encompasses 42 square miles and has 428 miles of streets.

Lake Havasu City is a planned community that was started from scratch in the 1960s by Robert P. McCulloch and C.V. Wood, Jr.*, and incorporated as a city in 1978. In those early years, everyone here came from somewhere else, and many early residents can tell you about landmark events like the dedication of the London Bridge and the installation of the town’s first traffic light, or how wild donkeys used to roam the area. Now it is possible to actually meet people who have never lived anywhere else but Lake Havasu City. They were born here, educated here, and work here. Whether born here or somewhere else, Lake Havasu City residents are proud of their community and its history.

With 300 days of sunshine a year, Lake Havasu is the perfect place for those that love the outdoors. From its beautiful lake with its great water activities to the quiet solitude of the desert, Lake Havasu has something for everyone. While you will find many amenities in town, big city shopping is just a few hours drive away in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Palm Springs. Our friendly town invites you to stop by for a visit. Or better yet, move here and help us teach the adults of the future! Together we can!
