Our Kids and our community won! Bond YES / Override YES
This initiative would not have succeeded without the leadership and dedication of the “Citizens for Havasu Schools” committee—numerous members of the community who volunteered their time and talents to serve as the planning and steering committee. It is also important to thank all of the community volunteers who worked so hard to get the information out regarding this campaign. They were the driving force to help get this bond and override initiative understood and supported by the community.
This level of community collaboration helped to shape a capital bond plan that addresses critical infrastructure needs at every single school in our district. The basics like leaking roofs, faltering plumbing, and defunct HVAC systems will be addressed to protect the long-term viability of our school buildings. But more than that, our community voted to invest in the safety of our children with important structural and technological security upgrades at every school. This includes upgrading the athletic fields to bring them in line with current safety standards. The support for Transportation will ensure that students arrive safely and on time to school and to various extracurricular and athletic events across the state.
We recognize that voters approved this funding with the expectation that tax dollars are being carefully spent, and with the intention of improving the learning environment for all students and staff. The building maintenance issues that will be addressed along with the technology and security upgrades will allow our students to continue to receive an excellent education in a safe and secure learning environment.
Equally important to our community is our ability to retain and attract the best and brightest staff to ensure the education of our children. Passage of the override will allow us to begin working on a compensation plan that will keep our great teachers and staff here, and will attract new employees to serve our community. This will ensure that we can continue to provide the excellent education that our community is receiving and expects! In addition, the override will allow us to reduce athletic fees for students as we are able to use those dollars for coaches.
It is important to us that we continue to build the trust of our community. As we move ahead with bond projects over the next months and years, we will remain committed to continued opportunities for community input. But for now, please accept our sincere gratitude for your support of our schools, our educators, and our children.
